Day 36 - 23rd November 2007

well - two weeks after having stitches out here's how my scar is healing up - looking pretty gruesome still. it's all evened up a bit now.. doesn't look so creased up.

so - 4 weeks to go till the last cast comes off. for the next two weeks they've moved my foot to a neutral position - rather uncomfortable for all of today - but the doc says i'm doing great, and that the op went well - apparently their was plenty of tendon to join up.

i'm rid of the barbie pink plaster..
sadly it's been replaced with baby blue... groan.

back in two weeks..

Day 22 - 9th November 2007

sheesh... 2 weeks after the op... just over 3 weeks since my little accident and i've lost half my right leg (perhaps a slight exaggeration) - the left leg is beefed up from all the hopping..

Parking at preson royal was a nightmare.. ended up having to hop way to far..

booked in and was straight through to the plaster room, no sooner had i sat down than the technician shouted not to.
plaster off and straight into the treatment room - bit of a wait for the student nurse to come and torture me..
first by tearing the dressing off - equivalent to waxing the back of my leg..
then by taking my stitches out.. her mentor was a bit rough.. but once the student got the idea it was far better - no yanking the damn things out..

so stitches out and cleaned up a bit.. doc said it looked okay.. so back to the plaster tech for a new one...

after two red plasters a change of colour was required.. shame they only had pink.. definitely no pictures of that.

more pictures in two weeks.. back to my couch now..

Day 14 - 1st November 2007

almost 48 hours after my operation now - feeling much better - still painful in the mornings and relying on painkillers to make me comfortable. i'm well looked after by ma and pa so it's all good. roll on a week on friday when i get the cast off and my stitches taken out.. should be interesting to see how it looks..

Day 12 - 30th October 2007 Op Day

I'm still alive.. albeit doped up to the eyeballs and drifting in and out of sleep. but i made it.. they've done the operation and sewed me back up and put a new plaster on it's a proper plaster one instead of a fibreglass one so it weighs a tonne. baack in a week on friday to have the stitches out and get a new plaster put on...

Soooo tired....

Day 10 - October 28th 2007

seems the bruising is really coming out.. while my toes are a long way from the injury site the damage is severe enough for the blood to be pooling in places downstream.. no wonder my toes are such odd colours.. and there was me thinking that it was just that the cast was too tight.. i wonder what colour they'll be after the operation..

Day 8 - 26th October 2007

So - 8 days in.. time to go back to the consultant for him to take a look. Dr. Tony Helm is his name - a young guy - probably less than 10 years older than me. he took me through the options which are basically operate - or jut let it heal - if i just let it heal the re-rupture rate is 15%, if they operate it's just 2 or 3%. We agreed that given my sports background operating was clearly the best choice. and once he checked my leg again and confirmed that i have a total rupture operating was the best thing to do. So he marked up my leg (just so he doesn't get confused) and booked me in or next tuesday. I've got a new plaster which will be replaced again after the operation - but it's only up to the knee - a week of no bending and now i've got it back!!. The most disturbing part of today was how stiff my leg was after just a week, and how much muscle i've already lost off my leg. xmas could be very disappointing when i finally discover how weak my leg will have become. Roll on tuesday.

Day 3 - October 20th 2007.

Here it is - my knackered leg. It's the day that Lewis Hamilton goes for the F1 world championship and England attempt to be the first team to retain the Rugby World Cup. At least there'll be some telly to watch. It's the first day i've realisd that i'm going to be couped up for a long time. Every task is 10 times as much effort as before, my hips and abs on the right hand side are sore from carrying it around, and the knee and calf and butt is sore on the left from hopping and putting all my weight through it. with any luck i'll be back on my feet by xmas.. hopefully... at this rate xmas can't come soon enough.
